When I saw the Armadillo I said "that's the hose for me". It arrived in about 5 days, and I immediately hooked it up to my pool. I went inside to get a glass of water and when I came out, the hose was leaking everywhere.

I immediately called the manufacturer and left a message (believe me - every time you call, you will only be able to leave a message, no one ever answers the phone). The owner called me back in about two days. He was very gracious and offered to send a new hose immediately. He even told me to keep the old one as it would be expensive to send it back.

The new one arrived in a few days and I immediately hooked it up. And it immediately started to leak. That was back in the middle of April.

I have left numerous messages since then and in fact after about my fourth message someone from the company called me. We talked for quite a while and he blamed a subcontractor in Georgia for the problem. I asked him if he would send me the parts to fix it as I did not want to take advantage of their previous kindness to me. He said he would speak to the owner and call me right back.

That was May 19, and that is the last I've heard from him or anyone else at the company. I called him and the company's main number at least three times since then. The man's phone is now disconnected.

I am really interested in seeing what excuse they are going to make for not following up. If they say to send it back under warranty and they will reimburse me, all well and good, but I just want a hose that doesn't leak, not my money back.

To those of you who are considering buying one, be aware of the leak problem and their failure to respond to inquiries. But if it ever does work, it is a great idea

GreatTerrain - "Armadillo" hose too heavy and leaks

San Diego, California 2 comments

Take www.greatterrain.com off your "shopping" lists for garden hoses. It advertises strong aluminum encased hoses -- "The Armadillo" -- that are indestructible...but are too heavy to drag around the yard.

The hose I received leaked. When I complained to the company by email and two phone calls over three weeks, not once did I get a reply on how I can return the product and get my $80 back. Now it's sitting in the garage in hopes that I will get a response one of these days. It really is a gamble to use companies on line unless they're recommended by a friend or another reputable web site.

I just googled garden hoses and this seemed perfect, but I realize now I should have done a lot more research.

For what its worth, this hose actually weighs a few ounces less than a quality heavy duty vinyl hose of the same length.

Sir: Great Terrain stands by the quality and durability of our product and we will gladly reimburse you for your purchase of your Armadillo Water Hose unit. In your email communication to our sales alias it was mentioned that you appreciated functionality of our hose but wished to return unit as the individual you made the purchase for was not able to lift more than 10 lbs. If your Armadillo Water Hose unit leaks again please send unit directly to our Great Terrain returns department and we will certainly reimburse you in full.

For reiteration purposes, returns can be sent to:
